Now Don't Getthe Wrong Idea...Advertising by the professions is a somewhat touchy subject in Ontario. It was banned outright until a few years ago, when the Canadian Supreme Court put a stop to that. Since then, Yellow Pages ads for lawyers, dentists, and plastic surgeons and the like have proliferated. Most are in good taste, and Canada remains fairly free of American-style, ambulance-chasing lawyer ads. But there's always someone wanting to push the envelope, and standards are changing constantly. The R.C.D.S. (the governing body for dentists in Ontario) remains rather sensitive about the issue, and takes a dim view of anything that they feel promotes a dentist as "unique or superior". Dentists have been reprimanded for using the words "gentle care", or stating the dentist's membership in professional associations. The vast majority of dentists do belong to groups such as the Ontario Dental Association, and the average person may not think that needs to be a secret. And most of you are can probably appreciate some differences among dental practices, without feeling it's all about Who's Better. Still, we do not wish to offend anyone, or question the Dental College's expectations. Our website is intended to be primarily informational rather than promotional, and we've rarely had anything but compliments about it. And the majority of dentist's websites do seem to list the dentists' affiliations - that seems to be fairly standard. Still, just to be on the safe side:
